Recycle your tree

Rejoice, re-gift, recycle... your tree! If you have a live tree for your Christmas decorations consider recycling it once you're ready to de-holioday your home. There are a lot of choices.

"Bring One for the Chipper" event on Saturday, Jan. 8. Residents can drop off live Christmas trees at the Christmas Tree Recycling Center in the Agnes Scott parking lot. The entrance is between 184 and 206 S. Candler St. The recycling center will be open Thursday, Dec. 30, through Saturday, Jan. 8. (Please do not leave trees anywhere else on the Agnes Scott campus.)

Home Depot
Not only is the Atlanta-based home improvement retailer participating in the "Bring One to the Chipper" event, they are holding a Christmas tree recycling program of their own. Most locations will accept live Christmas trees for recycling between January 1st and January 10th, 2010.

Local Fire Stations
Some fire stations in the 9 Metro Atlanta Counties will also accept Christmas trees for recycling as early as December 26th, 2009. Contact your closest fire station before hauling your tree off, as recycle dates are subject to change each year.

Finders Keepers named City's Best by Aol.com!

Finders Keepers Consignment Stores were just named the 2010 Winners of Aol.com's City's Best Search! We had some amazing competition and were honored to be named alongside them as a nominee - and we're thrilled that we won! Check out the City's Best website to learn what else people voted Atlanta's best:

Smells Like Christmas

I love the way Finders Keepers Furnishings smells. The heavy, wood furniture and rich fabrics fill the air with warm contentedness. Of course the hot cider and cookies Betsy puts out every day don't hurt either. This overall atmosphere is amplified by the holiday decor strung artfully from every rafter - lights, ornaments, and holly-jolly trees give the store an even cozier feel. I know they use artificial trees every year but I swear some how these very plastic decorations make the store smell like the holidays. Some times I'm tempted to take my cup of hot cider and sit in front of one of the glowing trees, sure that I can smell the pine.

These are a few of my favorite things...

I can't believe we've almost had our blog up and running for a year. We've learned so much and had so much fun. For the company's end of the year party I sorted through all of the pictures we (well - mostly Carrie!) took and chose my favorite of each Boutique Girl, and then turned those into 8 by 10 prints. Here are the pictures that I chose:

candy colored

What *is* it about a delicously colored handbag or pair of shoes that makes my mouth water? I mean sometimes it has that really delightful, rich, leather scent that fills my nose (and heart) with wonder and anticipation like a kid's first real Christmas tree... but we're talking a Pavlovian response here: I see a leather, jewel-toned purse and it's like someone ringing the dinner bell. Don't judge, but sometimes - especially if I can't afford it - I'll pick it up and talk to it, tell it about the adventures we'd take, ensemble plans I have for it, that I'd never *ever* take it out during rain or put trash in it or leave it in my car or on the floor (lies, lies, lies - but I really do try.) And that I love it enough to let it go when that lucky customer plucks it from the shelf and takes it home with her...

Live Mannequin Event

Standing still is hard work! I thought it was be a piece of cake - a breather, even - to stand perfectly still and not talk to a single person for 30 minutes at a time. But it's not easy at all! Especially when a customer didn't realize that the girl I was "mannequinning" with was, in fact, a real live person and tried to take her jacket off. Once she realized that she was derobing a person she jumped back like the mannequin was not only alive but also electric - and to my coworkers credit, she never even batted an eye! Here are a few pictures from the event:

All I want for Christmas is...

On Saturday I texted Stephanie to see how the day was going. Her response: an email that should've been wrapped with a shiny bow: pictures and descriptions of newly arrived inventory that I'm certain had her drooling all over the keyboard! Christian Louboutin, Louis Vuitton, Coach, Armani, Badgley Mischka, and more. Her personal favorite: a brand-spankin-new pair of Givenchy heels. I saw them with my own eyes on Monday: 4 inch heels with triple mary-jane straps that decorate an ankle with carefully crafted perfection; the glassy, smooth, nobody's-ever-taken-a-step-in-me soles are deliciously caramel in color and so shiny I could see my reflection in them... and this is a SHOE! Anyways, enough about what we'd love to see under our Christmas trees. Take a peek... what's your favorite?
