Q+A with our fearless leader, Bonnie Kallenberg

Bonnie Kallenberg, owner of Finders Keepers Consignment Stores, gets asked a lot of questions. She was recently asked: "What's the most unusual thing anyone has ever purchased in one of your stores?" Here's her answer:

Tyler Perry, a movie producer, lives and films movies and television shows all around Atlanta so we have his set designers in the stores often. The most memorable purchase of theirs was a large amount of dressy and designer clothing, shoes and accessories to use in the closet scene of “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”. Here at Finders Keepers Fashions we are ready for spring! This week of lovely weather is like gasoline on the flame - winter: it's time to take a hike! Jamilla's look of the week is definitely a clear indicator that she's ready for warmer weather. If it's still too chilly to go strapless, consider tossing on a neutral tone boyfriend blazer or denim jacket and a pair of boots! Still not covered up enough? Live Mannequin Event

Standing still is hard work! I thought it was be a piece of cake - a breather, even - to stand perfectly still and not talk to a single person for 30 minutes at a time. But it's not easy at all! Especially when a customer didn't realize that the girl I was "mannequinning" with was, in fact, a real live person and tried to take her jacket off. Once she realized that she was derobing a person she jumped back like the mannequin was not only alive but also electric - and to my coworkers credit, she never even batted an eye! Here are a few pictures from the event:

Lavender Love

I stopped by Finders Keepers Fashions to check out their inventory of sundresses. It's that time during Georgia's summer when the only things that merrily survive the daily burn are dandilions and whatever bugs those are that make that creepy, screaming buzzing noise from their perches in pine trees. When I rounded the corner of the building, already sweating from the fifteen feet I'd walked from my car, another lovely creature waved at me from the break bench by the employee entrance. Christie's purple sundress peeked out from the bushes and tall grass as she enjoyed a moment to herself, which I immediately interrupted and asked if I could take her picture. She just looked so happy in that dress, like she had a really great secret. Luckily she was a fantastic sport, and happily replied that she'd gotten her whole outfit at Finders Keepers. Well wasn't that just perfect? Even more perfect: all of the displays inside the store were hues of purple, and so a theme was born. Purple is a powerful color. It both soothes and inspires, calms and demands. I have a purple candle on my desk that I light and stare at whenever I've hit a creative wall. I think lulling myself into thinking about nothing in particular helps me get out of my own way.
